Under
limited supervision of the Deputy Chief / Fire Operations, manages a
shift and platoon of firefighters, supervises and serves as chief
field officer in directing the response, readiness and activities of
multiple fire companies, and performs a variety of administrative and
managerial duties in support of the department.

Functions:
Serves a shift
commander, manages, directs and organizes the activities of assigned
shift and company.
Supervises and coordinates fire suppression companies on assigned
shift; assigns work activities, projects and programs, monitors work
flow, and reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures;
trains recruits assigned to shift.
Interprets and applies departmental policies and procedures; ensures
compliance with department orders, rules, regulations, practices and
procedures.
Responds to major fire and medical emergencies; takes command of
personnel and equipment.
Coordinates and monitors emergency medical service activities.
Participates in and assists with the delivery of required and elective
training conducted to maintain a constant state of readiness and
competency for medical, fire, hazardous materials, technical rescues
and other special services; plans and coordinates regional classes as
needed.
Oversees and participates in semi-annual fire safety surveys for
assigned commercial business to ensure fire code compliance; monitors
correction of violations and conducts follow up visits.
Conducts fire education training to citizens in the effort to educate
the public in fire safety; schedules and coordinates shift assignment
of public fire education requests at schools and day care centers, as
well as station tours.
Represents the Fire department and the City in public appearances
regarding fire suppression, fire prevention and related.
Performs research, analyzes findings and prepares recommendations and
reports for the department.
Performs and participates in special projects as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
